Say What’s On the Line

Think about what you would get out of being healthy and fit. What’s on the line for you? What’s the carrot for you? It’s probably a number of things. Maybe it’s feeling sexy; fitting into your existing wardrobe; having the energy to volunteer; playing freely with your kids; enjoying an enhanced sex life; being able to do your job easier; getting a good night’s sleep; or living longer. The list goes on and on.

Without even knowing it or thinking of it, there may be a number of things that you are missing out on or avoiding because of a lack of health. For example, maybe even unconsciously, you avoid going on a warm vacation with your partner or a friend because you don’t want to wear a swimsuit. Maybe you’re grumpy on a day-to-day basis because you’re dehydrated, over-caffeinated, and/or fat. Maybe you’re sick. Maybe you don’t like going to events or being in public places because you worry that people are judging you. You’re tired. You’re self-conscious. You’re cranky. You’re anti-social. You’re lazy. Push yourself to look for consequences of lack of health in your life. Look for consequences that you may not have even known were there. Be honest with yourself. What are you forfeiting for bad health, and what would you gain from good health?
