Listen to Messages

I was sitting in a coffee shop one day debating whether to write for another hour or walk home to write there. I heard a message, “Walk home. It’s going to rain shortly.” I packed up my things to walk home. Sure enough, as I was arriving home, it started to rain. Was this a thought or a message? Was it a coincidence or synchronicity?

Have you had experiences where the same names or places or other messages kept popping into conversations, images, your thoughts, etc.? There are no accidents. Whatever you want to call this—intuition, higher power, gut feelings, angels, sixth sense—it’s a very powerful force that will support you in staying in flow if you are open to the messages.

The key is to practice noticing messages, inquire into their meaning, and take action. There are no right or wrong choices, but the universe works to open our eyes to new opportunities and pathways that we may not have thought of so that we have the chance to move in these directions. When we’re open to the messages, we can also inquire into their meaning. For instance, the name of a person may keep coming up, but it may not be clear why or how this person fits. It is important to remain open to messages that bring to light possible next steps related to this person.

We all have a strong sense of intuition, but most of us choose to block it out most of the time. We talk about funny coincidences and hunches and gut feelings, but we don’t allow our intuition to guide us on a moment-to-moment basis. We are grateful for the synchronicities that put us in the right place at the right time, especially if it gives us something like more money. However, we are not practiced in seeking messages to guide our choices. (And I mean seeking, not passively noticing messages but actively looking for them.) Being open—truly open—to messages is a practice and an art.
